Chromium Picolinate | Benefits, Dangers, and Supplements

Chromium, a metal, plays a role in sugar metabolism. May reduce the desire for carbohydrates, however, the research in this area is extremely preliminary. There are claims that it helps reduce insulin rechromiumsistance in diabetics, but the current evidence for this is mixed, and weak at best.

There is some evidence that it may help treat depression, however, the research on this is not conclusive.

Dangers

The dietary supplement form, chromium picolinate, may cause DNA damage and cancer. Birth defects have been shown in mice, but the human studies are not entirely conclusive at this time.
